There are times we seem to be surrounded by conflict, whether in the family, the community or the wider world. How can we develop qualities and skills of effective trust-builders?
A weekend conference to engage with individuals who have devoted their lives to trust-building, to learn from them in plenary, to exchange with them in workshops and informally over meals.
The conference is open to all, and will be of particular interest to those involved in initiatives for trust-building within their communities.
Contributors include:
Rt Hon John Battle, MP for Leeds West, member of Parliamentary Select Committees for International Development and Northern Ireland; formerly Prime Minister Tony Blair’s Envoy to the Faith communities
Pastor James Wuye and Imam Muhammad Ashafa known to many through the film, ‘The Imam and the Pastor’. In the early ‘90s they were leaders of armed groups which fought each other in Kaduna, Northern Nigeria. Now they are co-directors of an interfaith mediation centre, leading task-forces of imams and pastors to areas of conflict in their own and other countries.
Ramez Salamé, a lawyer from Beirut, Lebanon. Since experiencing a deep change of heart as a student in the early ‘70s, he has given his life to rebuilding relation-ships between the commu-nities since the 1975-90 war in Lebanon. His work has given rise to a network of people of different faiths, bound by a common commitment to the highest moral and spiritual values
Jean Brown from Australia and Britain, whose involvement in Asia with the ‘Action for Life’ training programme for young people, and ‘Creators of Peace – a women’s initiative’, has given rise to trust-building networks in various parts of the world.
